Tiger Woods is closing in on Jack Nicklaus’ 18 majors victories, will he return to the golf course at Pebble Beach this weekend.
Pebble Beach is one of Tiger Woods’ favorite courses, but its importance is nowhere near that of Torrey Pines and Firestone, where Tiger has won seven times each and has never finished out of the top 10.
Woods has even won twice the U.S. PGA Championships at Medinah, so the chances we will see Tiger Woods at Pebble Beach are slim, very slim.
Tiger Woods’ hibernation after his exposure as a sex addict and subsequent torture in Haitesburg, Miss., no one is under the impression that he might return any time soon.
However, Jack Nicklaus was asked last month about Woods’ return from a sex scandal, and how it would affect his pursuit of Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors victories.
“This year with where the majors are … he basically owns all three places,” Nicklaus said. “If Tiger is going to pass my record, this is a big year for him in that regard.”
Tiger has won half of his 14 majors at Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews, just as Nicklaus won half of his 18 majors on those three courses.
The truth of matter, Woods owns America’s most famous seaside course because of one magical season a decade ago.
Tiger Woods won the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, despite trailing by seven shots with seven holes to play to win his sixth consecutive U.S. PGA Tour victory.
Woods’ performance was close to perfection that day. He played bogey-free over the final 26 holes and set U.S. Open records for largest margin after 36, 54 and 72 holes.
A great day at a golf course ten years ago, will not override the much anticipated righteous public ridicule when he does return.
There will be no Tiger sighting at Peeble Beach.
